What Smart Splitter do I get?

Summary:
If you are looking to share an existing outlet between two devices, you will use the Smart Splitter with the same outlet configuration as your existing outlet. Then, if one of your device's plugs is different from the Smart Splitter output, you can utilize an adapter to convert the receptacle model.

This is most common when sharing a dryer outlet between the appliance and an EV charger. The dryer will be plugged in directly into the Primary side of the Smart Splitter, and an adapter will be required to convert the other plug to a NEMA 14-50 for the EV charger to plug into,

Step One: Identify your existing 240v wall socket.

The NeoCharge Smart Splitter is compatible with the most common 240-volt outlet configurations found in North American homes. These outlets include:

  • NEMA 10-30
    • 3-prong dryer outlet
    • An older dryer outlet, is found in homes build pre-1997
  • NEMA 14-30
    • 4-prong dryer outlet
    • This is the newer version of the 30A dryer outlet. Found in new installations built in 1997 or later
  • NEMA 14-50
    • 4-prong EV Charger outlet
    • Almost all plug-in EV chargers use the 14-50 configuration
  • NEMA 10-50
    • 3-prong electric oven/range
    • Commonly found in kitchens
  • NEMA 6-50
    • 3-prong garage outlet
    •  Typically used for welding equipment

Go take a look at your existing outlet to verify what it is.

Step Two: Match your wall socket type with the matching Smart Splitter model.

Step Three: Purchase a high-quality NEMA adapter (if needed).
If the plug on your EV charger looks different than the outlet in your wall (commonly seen in Appliance x EV use cases), you can add an adapter to any order. Safety is our top priority at NeoCharge, so based on UL safety requirements the Smart Splitter is required to have the same outlet type on both the output receptacles and the input pins.

Example:

If you have have a dryer that plugs into an existing NEMA 10-30 outlet, and an EV charger with a NEMA 14-50 outlet prong, you would purchase a NEMA 10-30 Smart Splitter to plug into your outlet and then a NEMA 10-30 to NEMA 14-50 adapter to allow your charger to be compatible with the NEMA 10-30 Smart Splitter your setup requires.

The Smart Splitter is essentially an extension of the wall outlet it is plugged into. This makes the Smart Splitter compatible with ALL electric car makes including Tesla, Volkswagen, GM, Ford, Audi, Lucid, BMW, GMC, Chevy, Volvo, etc.

Appliance Compatibility

The Smart Splitter is compatible with ALL plug-in 240v appliances including electric dryers, electric water heaters, AC 240v outlets, electric ranges, etc. Please read our article on Appliance Use Cases to see how a Smart Splitter might work for you.

The Smart Splitter is compatible with ALL Level 2 EV chargers sold in North America including Tesla, Enel X JuiceBox, ChargePoint, Siemens, ClipperCreek, Bosch, Grizzle-E, Megear, Amazon Basics, etc. Depending on what outlet type you have in your home, you may need to purchase an adapter as most of these chargers plug into a NEMA 14-50 outlet.
