Using AdaptersUpdated a month ago

NEMA adapters allow you to connect devices with different plug types to your Smart Splitter safely. Here's what you need to know about using adapters correctly:

Safe Adapter Usage: The Smart Splitter's input and output receptacles must match your wall outlet type due to UL safety certification requirements. When your EV charger has a different plug type than your wall outlet, use an appropriate adapter to make the connection compatible.

Correct Adapter Configuration: NEVER connect an adapter between your wall outlet and Smart Splitter. Instead, use one of these safe configurations:

  - Wall outlet → Smart Splitter → adapter → EV charger
  - Wall outlet → Smart Splitter → EV charger (when plugs match)

Example Setup: If you have a NEMA 10-30 dryer outlet and an EV charger with a NEMA 14-50 plug:

1. Purchase a NEMA 10-30 Smart Splitter (matches wall outlet)
2. Use a NEMA 10-30 to NEMA 14-50 adapter to connect your EV charger
3. Plug your dryer directly into the Primary outlet
4. Connect your adapted EV charger to the Secondary outlet

Important Considerations:
   - Always verify your EV charger can adjust to the appropriate amperage for     your circuit
   - For 30A circuits, ensure charging is limited to 24A or less
   - Some EV brands have specific adapter requirements (refer to manufacturer guidelines)

Compatible Adapter Types: Most Common:
   - NEMA 10-30P to NEMA 14-50R
   - NEMA 14-30P to NEMA 14-50R
   - NEMA 6-50P to NEMA 14-50R
   - NEMA 10-50P to NEMA 14-50R
